School visits at YWP are self-guided (under 16’s must be supervised at all times), although education sessions can be booked to enhance your visit (please see below).

AREN’T ANIMALS AMAZING
During this general fun, hands on education session students will gain a greater appreciation and understanding of animals. They will observe and touch a range of animal artefacts such as skulls, claws, feathers and at least one live animal. If you would prefer, this session could be tailored to be just hands on with more of our animals which includes a variety of invertebrates.
ZOO CAREERS – JOB ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Learn about the different roles and responsibilities at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, with a special focus on what it takes to be an animal ranger. This session includes a presentation and YWP animal ranger video.
CONSERVATION AND ENDANGERED ANIMALS
This session starts with a thought provoking group activity centred around endangered animals and also includes getting hands on with a range of animal bio-facts and items seized by HMRC (such as furs and skins).
MARKETING
Find out more about Yorkshire Wildlife Park and its marketing campaigns & strategies. This session includes targeted marketing activity and examples of campaigns.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
An in-depth look at the importance of customer service and how it is implemented at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. This session includes a presentation and a customer needs activity.
EMPLOYABILITY DAY
This BIAZA award winning session links to many of the Gatsby Benchmarks and enables careers connections to be made across other areas in the curriculum. This session is an ideal way to support your goal of meeting the aims outlined in the governments career strategy. The session includes various activities which mean students will need to use a range of key transferable skills. As YWP is an expanding business and local employer, this session offers the perfect encounter for your students.
This session will last for 3 hours, ensuring that you still have free time to explore the park. Costs: £150 excluding admission fees. Max of 20 students. Please enquire today.
This session is only available between October and February.
ANIMAL ADAPTATIONS
This session involves a hands-on group activity and chance for the students to examine a range of animal bio-facts and live animals.
BRANDING AND INTERPRETATION
Focuses on YWP’s branding guidelines and how we use these across our website, advertising, and interpretation boards. We look at why we require interpretation and how we plan, create and display this around the park and its importance. There are group challenges/activities that require discussion included in this session. * Recommended for KS4+
WILD AT ART
This session allows students full use of our animal biofacts such as fur, feathers, replica skulls, replica claws etc. Students can also photograph these for reference later. This session will be introduced by YWP staff to explain what each biofact is and then will be supervised by school staff and YWP staff. Can be booked as a 45-minute or 90-minute session.
* Students must bring all their own art equipment as none will be provided by YWP
